The circuit was built on a proto-board that has copper traces on one side. I have plans to make another one, which will be way smaller, but for now this one works just great for all my APRS/GPS needs. Total cost was about $70.00 cdn.

The Trimble SQ defaults to a 9bit, 9600 baud, binnary format, so you will need to download the free software, and set it up for ASCii NMEA sentences at 4800 baud.

To use it, just hook it up to the serial port, turn the gps unit on, you did hook up the antenna, right? , run HyperTerminal, then watch the ascii scroll by,....or you could hook it up to a program called GPS TrackMaker, and see where you are on the map, or you could hook it up to your bot if it lives outside.

On average it takes about 50 seconds on a cold start, but I've had to wait as long as 3 minutes a couple of times, not bad.
